Alternator began running hot and started burning through the casing. Car smelled like burnt plastic. Also, the heat slightly melted the nearby radiator, which caused a leak and it needing to be replaced as well. This sounds exactly the same as the alternator recall on other dodge charger models in the 2012 year...but mine is the v8 engine and i was told the recall did not apply.

While driving, the vehicle started making a whining noise. Soon after, we smelled an odor of burning rubber. Within 10 minutes, a vehicle warning light appeared indicating the charging system was malfunctioning. About 5 minutes later, the battery save mode light came on, we lost abs and esc, and the car seemed to have lost power. We were close to a dodge dealer so we had the car looked at. Dealer had to replace the…

Then smoke started coming out of the hood. I turned off the car and waited for the smoke to subside, which was about…

While driving on the highway my vehicle completely shut off. Alternator was determined to be dead and needed to be replaced. This is the exact problem that the dodge charger recall p60 covered but this recall did not include the larger engines???? Makes no sense!!!! It was unsafe for those drivers and i should not be treated any different. I had to get off the highway without power by coasting into the middle…
